Ovulation Induction
Ovulation induction is the response of the ovary to exogenous stimulation by direct or indirect method. Ovulation induction is to alleviate infertility due to anovulation in females of reproductive age. This activity reviews the ovulation potential of a reproductive female and assisted ovulation in anovulatory females.
Ovulation induction is a straightforward fertility treatment that involves taking oral or injectable medication to stimulate regular ovulation. The medication is usually taken at the beginning of the menstrual cycle and the body's response is monitored through the cycle using ultrasound.
If a woman is not ovulating by herself then ovulation induction may be required. The most common causes of failure to ovulate are stress, weight fluctuations and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Other causes may include disorders of the pituitary gland, thyroid gland and raised prolactin levels.
