Behavioural disorders
There are lots of possible reasons for difficult behavior in toddlers and young children. Often it's just because they're tired, hungry, overexcited, frustrated, or bored.
The most common disruptive behavior disorders include oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), conduct disorder (CD), and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These three behavioral disorders share some common symptoms, so diagnosis can be difficult and time-consuming.
Your child constantly fidgets and/or has difficulty staying seated. Impulsive behavior gets in the way of your child's school work or social relationships. Your child appears to have no idea of the consequences of her actions. Your child's lack of foresight could put her in harm's way.
Diagnosis of any behavioral problem requires the identification of all behavioral and medical signs, history taking, a physical and neurologic examination, and any diagnostic tests indicated to exclude underlying medical conditions that might cause or contribute to the signs.
